Australian Black Swan Australian Black Swan

Scientific Name: Cygnus atratus

Australian Black Swans are native to Australia and Tasmania. Young swans, call cygnets, are covered in gray down for three to four weeks before their black feathers appear. The black swan utters a musical and far reaching bugle-like sound, called either on the water or in flight, as well as a range of softer crooning notes. It can also whistle, especially when disturbed while breeding and nesting.
